Matt Holliday, who hasn’t played since June 24 due to a viral infection, told YES Network that he hopes to come off the disabled list and return to the lineup on Friday.
Holliday took batting practice and did some running in the outfield. He told the network “he is relieved to be feeling better and is steadily improving.”
The Yankees have missed their 37-year-old veteran DH, who has 15 homers and an .877 OPS.
Gary Sanchez will serve as the DH on Wednesday instead of playing catcher, as Joe Girardi had initially planned. “The landscape changed a bit so I changed my mind,” Girardi said. … Starlin Castro (hamstring) is running again and will take some swings in the cage. “I think he’ll take some grounders and he’s continuing to progress fine,” Girardi said.
