The world's most adorable power plant is on the grid

Part of China is running on panda power.

Solar power may have never been more cute at the Datong Panda Power Plant, which was connected to the grid June 29.

Shaped like China’s national animal, the first-of-its-kind, 100-megawatt solar farm is part of a green energy initiative in the world’s most populous country. Not only is it adorable, but it saves 1.056 million tons of coal and reduces 2.74 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions over 25 years.

Panda Green Energy, a Hong Kong-based eco-development solutions provider, built the plant as part of an agreement between the Chinese government and the United Nations. More Panda Power Plants are in the offing for “Belt and Road” countries and part of China as the nation looks to connect with its neighbors and prepare for a clean-energy future.
