GATE CITY, Va.—Two Southwest Virginia counties have been rewarded a total of $6 million in federal funding to construct broadband infrastructure.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Community Connect Grant Program will be used to build out and construct broadband Ethernet fibers that will bring broadband to communities in Buchanan and Scott counties.
Scott County will receive $3 million to be used by the Scott County Telephone Cooperative and Buchanan County will also receive $3 million. About 603 locations in the Big Ridge community of Scott County and 676 locations in Buchanan County will benefit from the funding, according to a joint release from U.S. Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner.
