No injuries in Air Force base explosion

An explosion occurred at a lab on an Air Force base Wednesday morning in Florida, but there were no injuries.

The blast happened at 10 a.m. at the McKinley Climatic Lab on Eglin Air Force Base in Valparaiso, according to the base’s Twitter account. The surrounding area was evacuated and a shelter in place order was announced near the explosion as a safety measure.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation, but Eglin says smoke in the area may contain methyl chloride.

The McKinley Climatic Lab is part of the 96th Test Wing.
