Children leave messages of support for neighborhood cop

An Omaha police sergeant left for work in the middle of the night, only to find writing in his driveway.

His first thought was that it was vandalism.

“At first, I was a little bit upset,” Sgt. Antwone Finch said.

It turned out to be a gift from neighborhood children. The artwork made Finch smile.

The young artists were Antonio, 7, and Imira, 8.

“We drew a picture of hearts, flowers,” Imira said.

“We got to show him how much we love him too,” Antonio said.

“It’s good to have a police officer in the neighborhood where they can come to talk and play,” Finch said. “Especially with the stereotypes, the role police officers have now.”

Finch took a few photographs of the artwork, which he’ll cherish forever.

“It really makes my day,” he said. “It’s cool to have kids who come play in the neighborhood come talk to me.”
