At least 18 horses died when a barn caught fire in eastern Kendall County early Wednesday, according to fire officials.
Crews from the Plainfield Fire Protection District pulled to 1120 Wheeler Road around 1:15 a.m. and saw people trying to save horses from the burning barn, according to Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton.
As many as 30 horses had been in the barn and at least 18 of them died, he said. There were no hydrants in the area and water had to be brought in, Stratton said.
Two people suffered minor injuries, a sprained ankle and breathing problems.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
