2 injured in crash with empty squad car on North Side

Two men were injured when their vehicle hit an empty Chicago police squad car that was blocking traffic near an earlier crash on Lake Shore Drive in the Gold Coast neighborhood early Tuesday, authorities said. 

The crash involving the squad car happened in the 900 block of North Lake Shore Drive just after 3:35 a.m., police said in a media notification. Two men who were riding inside a compact car were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not-life threatening, police said. Their conditions were stabilized.

The officer was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The officer’s vehicle was blocking a southbound lane. 

Two southbound lanes were closed due to the crash as of 4:25 a.m.
